Dear Clients,
Happy New Year! I hope that 2008 has gotten off to a positive and productive start for all of you. Here at Zynx we have hit the ground running, as we continue to work towards helping our clients measurably improve the quality, safety, and efficiency of care. I’d like to share with you three of our more important initiatives, upon which much of our energy and attention will be focused this year.
In 2008, integration with our partners in healthcare information technology will remain a primary effort here at Zynx. If clinical information is to accurately inform and potentially improve the treatment of patients, it must be rapidly available at the point of care (and potentially require no more than 1 to 2 clicks to access), as practicing clinicians are extremely busy. Moreover, for the information to be credible, it must be kept up-to-date—no easy task, considering the 20,000 or so biomedical journals that publish around 150,000 new articles each month. Hospitals, too, are faced with the daunting task of maintaining a growing library of order sets and plans of care. Integration enables rapid access to clinical information that is updated and maintained continuously, and delivered where it matters most: at the point of care. Zynx continues to make great progress in integrating with our partners, which together represent some of the biggest names in healthcare IT.
Another key Zynx initiative for 2008 will be to support consistency of treatment through our newest product, Zynx AmbulatoryCare™. Clinical decision support must be consistent across all settings—from the hospital to the physician office—if patients are to receive the highest quality of care. It is here that Zynx AmbulatoryCare comes into play, providing evidence-based order sets, alerts, regulatory content, and performance measure checklists for use in the ambulatory setting. In extending the reach of decision support across the continuum of care, patients continue to receive the benefits of care provided in the hospital long after they are discharged. Not only this, but many of the diagnostic tests and treatments reported in Zynx AmbulatoryCare could potentially prevent patient hospitalizations altogether. With the recent Stark Law exception, it may be possible for hospitals to subsidize all or part of the purchase of Zynx AmbulatoryCare when enhancing your EMR functionality. Zynx AmbulatoryCare can be a key part of your organization’s efforts to meet the Federal Trade Commission’s definition of clinical integration, thus enabling a group of provider organizations to negotiate collectively with payers. While Zynx cannot give guidance to your hospital on the Stark Law exception or the FTC’s position on clinical integration, we know that these issues are an important consideration for many of our hospital and health system clients.
Finally, in 2008, Zynx will aim to expand the breadth of technological platforms in which Zynx clinical decision support can be accessed. Already, Zynx content is included in CPOE, inpatient nursing documentation systems, ambulatory EMRs, and perinatal monitoring information systems. Zynx intends to be a source of clinical decision support for a growing number of healthcare IT platforms in 2008 and beyond.
I wish you and your organization a healthy and prosperous year!
Sincerely,

Scott Weingarten
