Zynx Health Supports the IHI 100K Lives Campaign

As the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) mobilizes a nationwide campaign to implement changes in care that have been proven to prevent avoidable deaths, Zynx Health has pushed forward with an array of solutions that empower hospitals to put these evidence-based interventions into practice.
Zynx Health, the leader in evidence-based decision support, provides clinicians with Web-based referential and integratable tools built upon the foundation of rigorous, systematic research. Integrating the IHI initiatives into its content, Zynx provides support for hospitals pursuing the IHI campaign goals, which aim to save 100,000 lives by June 2006. The campaign has enlisted over 2,500 hospitals, and the numbers and feedback already have shown significantly reduced mortality rates and improvement in patient care.
The success of this campaign hinges in great measure on the dissemination of reliable information. With a team of experienced clinical writers and editors on staff, Zynx focuses on developing current, truly evidence-based content.
“We follow a transparent and reproducible methodology for article identification and selection,” said Bertina Yen, MD, MPH, co-director of content development at Zynx Health. “This ensures that we deliver high-quality content to our clients that is clinically relevant and that minimizes the introduction of author bias.”
By incorporating the 100K Lives performance measures throughout its content, Zynx Health drives hospitals to achieve their campaign goals by providing supporting tools for each of the six campaign initiatives. These initiatives include: deployment of rapid response teams; delivery of reliable, evidence-based care for acute myocardial infarction; prevention of adverse drug effects; prevention of central line infections; prevention of surgical site infections; and prevention of ventilator-assisted pneumonia. Clinicians can select any of these initiatives and find relevant clinical synopses within the Zynx modules, along with direct-link citations to the original IHI documents.
“We make it easier for hospitals to meet their IHI goals because we are one of the few healthcare content sources that monitor the IHI performance measures and cite them in our tools,” said Yen.
“In particular, the forecasting tool provides useful information derived from hospital-specific adherence to the 100K Lives campaign initiatives that can help hospitals prioritize their IHI goals.”
Zynx Health’s order sets, alerts, and reminders also support the campaign by minimizing mistakes at the bedside. Based on the most current evidence, standardized order set templates can easily be customized and edited to drive adherence to IHI recommended practice. Had a recommended step been omitted in the treatment of a patient, a pop-up would immediately notify clinicians with an alert containing recommendations and direct-access links to the evidence. Additionally, red check marks highlight recommended interventions so clinicians can focus on these regulatory initiatives.
As organizations such as the IHI offer new recommendations and performance measures, Zynx Health will continue to update its content to reflect the latest evidence-based practices. For hospitals striving to meet the goals of the 100K Lives campaign, Zynx will continue to provide valuable cutting-edge tools that bridge the gap between knowledge and action, and put these interventions into practice to save more lives.
